Depo-Provera Claim Eligibility

Depo-Provera is an injectable contraceptive that has been widely available in the U.S. for decades. However, a French study published in March 2024 found that women who took Depo-Provera for more than a year were more than five times likelier to develop meningioma, a type of brain tumor.

Long-term use of Depo-Provera is central in lawsuits filed thus far, with many plaintiffs having taken the drug for more than a decade. Studies suggest that as little as a year may be enough to establish a link between Depo-Provera and meningioma development.

Plaintiffs have experienced seizures, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, vision problems, and more. If you took Depo-Provera for more than a year and believe you might have developed a meningioma as a result, contact your doctor immediately. If your loved one was diagnosed with a meningioma after long-term Depo-Provera use and later passed away, you might be eligible to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.

“Depo-Provera, a widely used birth control injection, has been recently linked to serious side effects, including meningioma, a slow-growing tumor that forms in the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, which may lead to brain injury. Symptoms of meningioma include seizures, headaches (often worse in the morning), double or blurry vision, hearing loss or ringing in the ears, memory loss, difficulty speaking (aphasia), weakness in the arms or legs, loss of smell, and trouble speaking. If you or a loved one believes you are experiencing complications from Depo-Provera, it’s important to consult an attorney with experience with complex drug cases right away.”

New York Depo-Provera Lawsuit FAQs

It’s normal to have lots of questions if you are considering a New York Depo-Provera lawsuit. Below are some of the most common questions we receive from prospective clients.

What Is Depo-Provera?

Depo-Provera is an injectable contraceptive manufactured by Pfizer. Though it has been widely available for decades, the drug was recently linked to a risk of developing brain tumors, giving rise to an emerging wave of product liability lawsuits.

The New York product liability statute of limitations is typically three years after the date you were injured. However, if your injury isn’t immediately obvious and is discovered later on, the discovery rule may apply. For New York Depo-Provera lawsuit claims, this may mean you will have three years to file after being diagnosed with a meningioma. Our attorneys can investigate your claim and determine the correct deadline under the statute of limitations.

Meningiomas are tumors that develop in the meninges, the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. While typically benign, they can cause disruptive symptoms such as headaches, seizures, or vision problems and may require surgery or other treatments, like radiation therapy, for management or removal.

Yes. If you took Depo-Provera over a long period and needed surgery to remove a meningioma, you may have grounds to file a lawsuit. Our attorneys can help determine whether you have a viable claim.

Meningiomas can cause chronic symptoms such as seizures, headaches, memory loss, and issues with eyesight, speaking, hearing, or smell. If you took Depo-Provera for a long period of time and are experiencing any of these symptoms, consult your doctor as soon as possible.

Many plaintiffs who have filed Depo-Provera lawsuits developed meningiomas after using the drug for over a decade. However, some studies suggest that you can develop symptoms after using Depo-Provera for as little as a year. In general, the longer you’ve taken Depo-Provera, the easier it may be to prove that it caused your meningioma.

Recent studies have linked long-term use of Depo-Provera to dangerous side effects. If you develop side effects, you may have a viable legal claim. However, you should consult your doctor before starting or stopping any Depo-Provera treatment.

Lawsuits have been filed in federal courts in various states, including California, Nevada, and Indiana. Plaintiffs allege they developed meningiomas requiring invasive treatments after using Depo-Provera. Multiple plaintiffs claim that they were unaware of any link between Depo-Provera and brain tumors, believing the drug was safe. These lawsuits may be consolidated for federal multi-district litigation (MDL) in the near future.
