Fighting for Paralyzed Accident Victims & Their Loved Ones
Paralysis is a serious, catastrophic injury that permanently alters a person’s life. Both paraplegia and quadriplegia are some of the most devastating injuries a person can endure, with victims facing new mobility challenges and, in many cases, being unable to continue caring for themselves or providing for their families. Sadly, these injuries are often the result of someone else’s negligent or wrongful behavior. When this is the case, victims are entitled to seek financial compensation in the form of a personal injury lawsuit.
At Richmond Vona, LLC, we represent paraplegics and quadriplegics in complex legal claims. Our Buffalo paralysis lawyers understand the immense, far-reaching impact your injuries have on your life, and we are prepared to fight for the maximum recovery you are owed. What Is the Difference Between Paraplegia & Quadriplegia?
Both paraplegia and quadriplegia (also known, though somewhat less commonly, as tetraplegia) are types of paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. When the spinal cord is damaged, it disrupts communication between the central nervous system and the brain. This, in turn, results in reduced or lost mobility, function, and sensation. Generally speaking, the location and severity of the injury will determine whether a person is partially or fully, temporarily or permanently paralyzed.
The primary difference between paraplegia and quadriplegia is the location of the injury and the resulting damage.
Paraplegia
Paraplegia is the loss of movement, or paralysis, of the lower trunk and legs. In other words, paraplegia is partial paralysis, as paraplegics retain function, sensation, and movement of the upper trunk, arms, and neck. Paraplegia often results from an injury or damage to the middle or lower area of the spine.
Quadriplegia
Quadriplegia is the loss of movement, sensation, and function from the neck down, or total paralysis. Quadriplegics lose functioning ability in all four limbs, as well as the trunk. Typically, quadriplegia is the result of a spinal cord injury to the neck or the upper area of the spine.
Our Buffalo paraplegia/quadriplegia attorneys are here to answer your questions and guide you through the legal process. We are available around the clock to assist you.
Common Causes of Paraplegia & Quadriplegia
A wide variety of accidents and traumatic events can lead to devastating spinal cord injuries, paralysis, and paraplegia or quadriplegia. Some of the most common causes of both paraplegia and quadriplegia include:
- Car accidents
- Motorcycle accidents
- Pedestrian and bicycle accidents
- Commercial vehicle/truck accidents
- Slips, trips, and falls
- Sports-related accidents
- Acts of violence, such as assault
A person may also suffer a spinal cord injury, leading to paraplegia or quadriplegia, as a result of using a defective product or after an act of medical negligence or malpractice. In any case, when someone else is to blame for your injuries, you can seek financial compensation for your losses with the help of a Buffalo paralysis attorney.

Damages Available to Victims of Paralysis
If you believe someone else was at fault for your injuries, you may be entitled to compensation for your damages. “Damages” is a legal term that describes the losses—financial or otherwise—a victim sustains as a result of another person or party’s negligent or wrongful actions.
Paraplegics and quadriplegics require extensive medical treatment and care. Often, the full lifetime cost of treating these injuries—including costs associated with emergency medical treatment, rehabilitation therapy, medications and medical equipment (such as wheelchairs), and more—can easily exceed hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars over the course of the victim’s lifetime. And this does not even take into account the lost wages and income the victim will endure if they are unable to return to work or if their disability prevents them from obtaining any form of gainful employment whatsoever.
Our Buffalo paralysis attorneys can help you seek fair recovery for the following:
- All medical expenses associated with your injury
- Lost wages and/or income
- Lost or reduced earning capacity/disability
- Costs associated with property/vehicle damage repairs
- Pain and suffering, including emotional distress
